Stefan Sagmeister- 7 rules for making more happiness

The process behind my poster itself is a collaged piece, combining methods of digital and hand rendered manipulation. The image is taken from when I did the photography lighting induction, I blew it up and intentionally made it blurry so as to not catch the focal centre of attention as I felt the brain was more important, as well as not to appear vain or particularly confident as this contradicts my personality, as often my work may be loud/ speak volumes provocatively while I can often be shy and withdrawn. It's furthermore symbolic of the fact I value compliments about my work so much more highly than of myself, as I use my work as an expression of self, enabling me to work through topics close to my heart, as I see this as the only true reason I'm creative.

'Chaotic Communicator' furthermore enhances this idea of my style and personality entwining as my work is an extension of myself as personal expression, therefore whilst my thoughts are constant, sporadic and 'chaotic' as is my work, my desk, my room; there never seems to be a sense of order yet I like it this way. Things that are too simplistic, spaces that are too clean unnerve me as I usually always opt for a 'messier' style. I used the pastel pink as I did in my way-finding project for the same reason (not only that it's my favourite colour..) that it suggests sensitivity and softness which is reflective of my personality as I'm incredibly sensitive yet I'm completely comfortable with this after years of coming to terms with it. I repeated this title/name expressing repetition, whilst I may be chaotic, I am consistent in terms of always producing work on time; I thought this was also reflective of my chain of constant thoughts and anxieties.

Incorporating stitching I felt was essential to highlight another element of my work, which is that I love creating my own clothes, jewellery, customising jackets, shoes etc.

I was really pleased with the outcome as well as the feedback I received, from my tutor it was very positive particularly about the composition, the combination of using contrasting hand rendered and digital mediums is something I've been striving towards and was much appreciated as it's visually so much more rich and it was noted my unique style shone through. The concept also of using rough bits of notebook paper accentuated the personal elements I highlight throughout the presentation and written on the paper, as I explain I focus my work on concepts and experiences I have lived through/ are relevant to me; in this way my work is often subjective, I touched upon objective vs. subjective in writing as one of the questions was what we enjoyed most and I explained how my Way-finding project was my favourite in terms of theory and better understanding my own style of practice.
