My friend who is a multitalented musician approached me and asked if I could design him some artwork for his new hip hop solo project. I've designed work for his band a few years ago and was honoured he asked me as he said he'd always loved my style. After listening to his new music I was able to visualise something, he allowed me to do my own thing in that I had very little guidance and maximum creative freedom. I'm incredibly pleased with the outcome as thankfully he was too and was incredibly complimentary which means obviously so much more hearing such positivity from others. It was a fun mini project and he's asked that in the future I may design more pieces for his band .
The grittiness of the image trace and the outlines created on the right I feel are really complimentary of his style, particularly the tone in which he raps. The contrasting flash of colour in the background and font with the dark sketchy imagery overlaying it is purposely in reference to the sense of enlightenment as many of his lyrics suggest, yet maintaining this idea of isolation with the closed eyes and head turning away.
